Colorado has always been at the top of the list for people coming to ski, and Denver was a fun place to stop in on the way. But what used to be considered a “large cowtown” has grown into a thriving city.
Whether it’s the breweries, the skiing, or the general vibe of Denver, our city has become one of the hottest tourist destinations in the country. Each neighborhood has its own charm and personality, and the hotels in these neighborhoods reflect that!
You have to make a difficult decision, though: where should you stay in Denver?
Do you want to go classy, historic, or convenient? Are you coming to Denver to party, or would you rather be surrounded by shopping streets? Lucky for you, the city has it all, and we have a breakdown of where to stay in Denver.
Where to Stay in Denver
LoDo (Lower Downtown)
Best for: Anyone traveling without a car, people traveling with a short trip
If you’re wondering where to stay in Denver without a car, LoDo is a safe bet. This centrally-located area is one of the most popular areas to stay in Denver. I even lived here for a few years!
This area is very historic. Home to Coors Field, 16th Street Mall, Larimer Square, and the historic Union Station, there’s lots to explore here. Plus, the area is incredibly walkable, and you can often find hotels that aren’t that terrible with rates.
Where to Stay in LoDo
The Rally at McGregor Square
The Rally at McGregor Square is surrounded by fun restaurants and bars and is next to Coors Field. On gamedays, McGregor Square comes alive.
Since The Rally is so new, it is one of the more modern hotels in Denver. The rooms have completely new beds and furniture, and the views from the hotel are hard to beat.

The Oxford Hotel
Where do you stay in Denver if you like cool old hotels with lots of stories? The Oxford Hotel.
One of the best parts of the hotel is the location. The Oxford is close to Denver’s Union Station, and you could take a train straight from the airport to Union Station for a few bucks and walk to your hotel, making it one of the best places to stay in Denver without a car.
The Cruise Room. This is Denver’s longest-running bar and opened up right after the end of prohibition in 1933. The Oxford is an excellent place for couples to stay and saunter downstairs for a romantic toast.
It has great cocktails and such a fascinating history that people who work at The Oxford love to tell. In fact, this is a frequent stop for Denver ghost tours, so you never know who will join you for a drink!

The Crawford Hotel
The Crawford Hotel is elegant, unique, and actually inside of Union Station. They do a phenomenal job of blocking out the noise from the hustle and bustle downstairs.
The rooms embrace the existing architecture of Union Station and are so lovely you might not want to leave. If you want a nightcap, The Cooper Lounge is a lesser-known cocktail bar in Union Station upstairs from the main terminal.
The hotel offers deals for certain restaurants and bars, so ask them about what you should do when you check in!

Central Business District (CBD)
Best for: Theatre fans, conference-goers
In the central business district, you’ll find plenty of hotels with varying prices and accommodations. If you are in town for a show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts or a conference, this area will be most convenient for you.
It’s situated right next to LoDo, so there’s a lot of walkable spaces here, too.
Where to Stay in CBD
The Grand Hyatt
The Grand Hyatt is the go-to hotel in Denver for conventions and events. The rooms are nice, there is plenty of meeting space, there’s access to a pool and tennis courts, and the service is excellent.
It is typically affordable, though it does book up when there are large events in town. A fireplace in the lobby adds a nice “warm” touch for your arrival!

The Four Seasons
The Four Seasons maintains its reputation for grandeur and excellence in Denver. The service can’t be beat, and they have hosted some of the most beautiful weddings I have seen.
If you want to splurge, this is the place. The suites up on the top floor are much nicer than any apartment my friends and I have ever rented, and the floor-to-ceiling windows show off the whole mountain range.
Also, it’s more common than not to run into a visiting sports team in the lobby bar Edge.

Uptown
Best for: foodies, those looking for a more local experience
In Uptown, restaurants like Ace Eat and Serve, and Steuben’s are Denver classics, and you can catch some of the most talented drag performances at Hamburger Mary’s.
Uptown is the best neighborhood to stay in Denver. You will always find a good place to hang out, can walk to Cheesman Park, and are a stone’s throw away from Downtown.

Warwick Denver
The Warwick Denver is at the ideal location. This is a great place to stay without needing a car. You can stay at the Warwick and never have to call a rideshare if you want to bounce around to other neighborhoods.
There is a rooftop pool, updated suites with balconies, and a restaurant in the lobby, Gattarra, that has killer happy hour deals.
If you are looking for something that is not over the top but still nice and close to downtown, then you have found your spot at Warwick Denver.

The Brown Palace
The Brown Palace is stunning. Prices can get a little up there, but believe me, it’s worth it. The lobby is grand, and you feel like you are walking back in time when you are there. The hotel opened in 1892 and is an integral part of Denver’s history.
The lounges and cocktail bars have some of the best services in the city, and this hotel is a favorite for celebrities and politicians to frequent when they are in town.
Transitioning into a more modern era, the hotel’s spa is delightful and one of the top spas in the city.

Courtyard by Marriott Denver Downtown
Great news, everyone! There is a Courtyard Marriott literally attached to The Brown Palace. It is much more affordable, simple, and clean, and you just have to walk across an indoor bridge to get to the Brown Palace lobby.
This is one of my most frequent recommendations I give to my friends visiting Denver.

Capitol Hill
Best for: those not wanting to stay at big name hotels, those wanting a local experience
Capitol Hill, or Cap Hill as you will more likely hear it referred to, is one of the oldest and coolest places to stay in Denver. There aren’t many big hotels, but there are a couple of top-notch places to stay.

Capitol Hill Mansion Bed and Breakfast
The Capitol Hill Mansion Bed and Breakfast is definitely one of the coolest places to stay in Denver.
It’s historic, well-kept, has an amazing breakfast, and “Brunch in the Garden” with a top-rated chef makes it the perfect place to call home for a few days. There are only a few rooms, all individually designed, and it typically stays pretty quiet.

Patterson Inn
The Patterson Inn is one of the best-maintained old mansions from the 1800s. Ownership has exchanged hands throughout history, and the current proprietors have made this house into an inn that looks like it’s from a Hallmark movie.
If you are a thrill seeker, here’s your chance to stay at a place well-known nationally for being haunted. Whether or not you buy into the supernatural aspect, it’s hard not to connect with the past in this structure.

Cherry Creek
Best for: shopping, galleries, foodies
Cherry Creek is known for its shopping, restaurants, and galleries. If you stay here, make a stop at The Cherry Cricket. It has one of the best burgers (and Impossible burgers!) you will ever eat.

Halcyon
The Halcyon is classy, convenient, and comfortable. It is one of the newer hotels in the area and is the definition of a boutique hotel. It also offers many deals and amenities that other hotels lack.
You can rent outdoor equipment from the “Gear Garage”, get a ticket for the nearby Denver Botanic Gardens, and get a pass to a gym in the area.

The Jacquard
The Jacquard is a part of the Autograph Collection hotels and, as it says on the website, “defines elegance.” The rooftop pool at The Jacquard is a hot spot for travelers and locals alike.
Narrative, the restaurant in the hotel, is one of the best in the neighborhood. The menu is always fresh, and there are plenty of options for people with varying dietary restrictions.

Lower Highlands (LoHi)
Best for: Couples, foodies, those who like walking
If you’re wondering where to stay in Denver for couples, LoHi is definitely a great option. This neighborhood is fairly hip and is known for its trendier restaurants with great views of the Denver skyline.
This area is home to great food spots, like Little Man Ice Cream Shop and Recess Beer Garden (a personal fave of mine).
Where to Stay in LoHi
Hampton Inn and Suites and Fairfield by Marriott
These two are directly next to each other and right on the edge of the LoHi neighborhood. They are lovely, affordable, and pretty much your only option in the Lower Highlands area if that is where you want to stay.
It’s easy walking distance to the food hall Avanti and one of my favorite breweries in Denver, Zuni St Brewing.

River North (RiNo)
Best for: Those who want to check out the local brewery scene, art lovers
River North, or RiNo, isn’t very centrally located, but the restaurants, hotels, and breweries around the area make it a cool neighborhood to visit.
RiNo answers the question of where to stay if you’re interested in hiking in Denver because it’s easy to navigate yourself to places like Boulder and Estes Park from here without the downtown traffic! It’s easily one of the cool places to stay in Denver.
Where to Stay in RiNo
The Source
The Source is an exceptional spot in Denver. The source is a boutique hotel and has a couple of the best restaurants in Denver in the building. Safta, from renowned Israeli chef Alon Shaya, has the most incredible brunch.
Temaki Den is a sushi restaurant is Michelin-recommended and a rare find. I’d stay here for the dining options alone.

The Ramble Hotel
The Ramble Hotel has charm and class, and whoever did the decorating deserves a prize. The interior of the hotel itself is so well done, and Death & Co. is one of the most recommended places to grab a cocktail in Denver.
The suites at the hotel make you feel like you are staying in a luxury apartment in Denver, and there’s an option for a room with a bunk bed! Don’t worry, though; it’s not like camp; this bunk bed is fabulous.

The Golden Triangle
Best for: Those who want to spend nights out, museum-goers
The Golden Triangle is your gateway to the Denver Museum of Art, the Colorado History Museum, and one of the most popular places to go out, Broadway.

The Art Hotel
The Art Hotel is…pure art. If you aren’t familiar with Deborah Butterfield’s pieces, look them up now. There is a stunning horse made out of wood in the lobby, and everywhere you look is another masterpiece.
Even the hotel rooms themselves have art in them. It’s a more expensive hotel, but you can look at it like you’re also staying in a museum, so you’re paying for a room AND an experience.
Since there is so much art around, if a family asks you where to stay in Denver, this might not be the place. It is a great place to stay for couples!

Final Thoughts: Best Neighborhood to Stay in Denver
You really can’t go wrong in Denver. While all of these neighborhoods and hotels have their own atmosphere and personality, it’s easy to explore the city no matter where you stay.
